Are you willing to send your system to us? (Yes/No) : Unlikely but you never know...

Is your system a laptop or desktop? : Desktop

If desktop, is it custom built, or manufactured? : Built by me

If desktop, what is the make/model of your motherboard? : Intel D525MW

What is the make/model of your system? (COMPLETE model name required) : N/A

What is the model of your CPU? : Intel Atom D525 1.8 GHz

What is the make/model of your failing display(s)? : Envision EN7750

If laptop, is your built-in display failing? (Yes/No) : N/A
What is your operating system? : Win 7 Pro / SP1

Is it a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system? : 32 bit

What display driver version do you have installed? : Tested with 8.14.10.2117 (original) and now 15.12.75.50.7.2230 (latest)
What type of connection are you using? (HDMI, VGA, DP, DVI?) : VGA

What happens that results in the blackscreen failure?
System had been fine for about 3 years. Had been running for a number of weeks without restart. Rebooted it today and get black screen after windows start. Starts OK in safe mode. Removing intel graphics driver and letting windows install generic VGA driver solves problem. Re-installing Intel GMA driver 8.14.10.2117 from CD or 15.12.75.50.7.2230 download from intel gives black screen.

Really bizarre, this was a happy, very simple, box chugging away 24x7 collecting data and with one reboot at it all goes to hell. At least I found this thread and see I'm not alone.

Note the BIOS is the original, sorry, but in light of the Intel driver problem I really don't see risking bricking it by updating
