Did you try uninstalling and reinstalling Google* Chrome as well? If it is an overheating issue it would expect that it happens more often and regardless the software being used as long as the processor is being used intensively. Therefore, I suspect the cause of the issue might be different, but more troubleshooting is required in order to determine the cause. Were you able to test the system in safe mode? Press F8 while the system starts so you can access it.

 

Is this an issue that you can reproduce at any moment you want? Perhaps you would be able to connect a second display to the laptop while it is happening and see if it only affects that monitor or the other one as well. This way you can try to determine a possible issue with your laptop’s display cables. If that is the case sometimes the issue occurs while closing and opening the lid.
